Let's Read: UNHCR Innovation Fund

Two initiatives, one belief: learning shouldn't require a smartphone, reliable data, or a stable life. ekatra reaches learners over WhatsApp and SMS; Let's Read brings that same belief into a refugee camp.

ekatra started with a COVID-era problem: how do you keep teaching students who don't have reliable internet or a smartphone? The answer was to meet them on the most universal channels there are, SMS and WhatsApp. Educators build micro-courses on the web; learners take them on ordinary phones, with little or no data, personalized by generative AI and reinforced with spaced microlearning.

It has reached 35,000+ learners and was named a World Economic Forum UpLink Top Innovator in 2021; Meta featured it in the first episode of Bharat Builds With Llama.
